Polio victim takes solo road trip for a noble cause

D Prince became a victim of Polio before he turned 13. Now 41, the man has embarked on a 3,000 km-long solo road trip across Tamil Nadu to spread awareness about road safety and Swachh Bharat. Prince, who has always been anxious about hygiene and road safety, said that he had been planning such a trip since a long time.


Prince plans to take part in talk shows in almost all the districts of the state, to create awareness about the importance of having clean and safe roads and pavements.


Prince's trip was flagged off on Monday by Coimbatore district collector T N Hariharan. He said that he had been planning to trip to create awareness for almost 20 years. "It was only now that I got sponsorship from Rotary Club east zone and Aalayam Welfare Trust," Prince told Times of India.


"From Coimbatore, I will drive to Tirupur, Erode and Salem. From there, I will go to other districts. It will be a 10-day-long trip. I will participate in talk shows in every local All India Radio station on the trip," he added.


Prince is a member of the para volleyball team from Coimbatore. His team represented Tamil Nadu in the national stage. He believes that road safety is critical for differently-abled persons.
