The reason for this strike; they are demanding the State government to provide no-objection certificates to operate across Tamil Nadu. Also, to relax rules and norms for groundwater drawal based on the zones.

"The State government must consider providing NOCs to all existing units and regulate groundwater drawal depending on the critical and overexploited areas. Groundwater drawal can be permitted from a minimum of 30,000 litres a day," he further added.
This indefinite strike since Thursday has come into place after the Madras High Court directed the state to take action against unlicensed units and illegal extraction of water, The Hindu reported.
