According to a report by the ministry of environment, forest and climate change, as many as seven rivers in Tamil Nadu, spanning across over 600 km have been identified as highly polluted rivers in the state. Further, the reported added that these polluted stretches were found along the districts of Salem, Vellore, Erode, Namakkal and Tirunelveli. Notably, the highly polluted rivers include Cauvery, Bhavani, Thamirabarani, Palar, Sarabanga, Vasista and Thirumanimuthar.
