While heavy rains poured out in coastal regions of Tamil Nadu, many western districts in the State barely received rain and are suffering from water scarcity. According to media reports, 16 districts including Coimbatore, Erode, Kanyakumari, Karur, Madurai, Nilgiri, Perambalur, Pudukkottai, Ramanathapuram, Sivaganga, Thookthukudi, Trichy, Virudunagar, Tiruppur, Theni and Thanjavur received very less rainfall. Reports say the average rainfall in the State from October 1 should have been 21.3cm while Tamil Nadu has received only 19.7cm rainfall.
