The National Human Rights Commission has reportedly issued a notice to the Tamil Nadu government seeking a reply on the actions taken against usurers within four weeks. The move comes in the wake of the recent incidents of self-immolations and attempts for self-immolation in various places across Tamil Nadu. Particularly, the death of the three of a four-member family who self-immolated at the Tirunelveli collectorate has instigated public outcry.
