New proposal in TN Assembly on election of Mayors

Tamil Nadu law minister SP Velumani on Thursday introduced a proposal in the state Assembly to return to the previous way of electing Mayors. People will now directly elect their Mayors as per the proposal. Earlier, in 2016, former Chief Minister J Jayalalithaa brought a new rule that councillors will elect the Corporation Mayors and presidents of Panchayat and Municipality.
