Chief Election Commissioner Sunil Arora, on Saturday (September 21), announced that by-elections for the two vacant Assembly constituencies in Tamil Nadu - Nanguneri and Vikravandi - will be conducted on October 21. Timeline for filing nominations begins on September 23 and ends on September 30. Votes will be counted on October 24.
Vikravandi is vacant following the death of Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam (DMK) MLA Radhamani while Nanguneri remains unrepresented as its MLA Vasantha Kumar resigned from his post after enjoying victory in Lok Sabha elections.
In addition, Kamarajar Nagar Assembly constituency in Puduchery will also face by-election on the same date.
Meanwhile, Maharastra and Haryana will also go to polls on October 21. While the term of 288-member Maharashtra assembly ends on November 9, that of the 90-member Haryana assembly expires on November 2.
