On Monday evening, an injured patient was treated by a Mortuary worker in Government Hospital, Aranthangi. The video of the mortuary worker treating the wounds of the accident patient is doing rounds on social media. The victim's brother strongly condemned the non-availability of doctors in the hospital by sharing the video on his facebook profile.
The 38-year old Karthiban was on his way to Keeramangalam from Periyalur in his bike when a person crossed his way. Karthiban applied sudden brakes with the intent to make way for the other person and unfortunately lost his balance and fell into a pit. He was badly injured in his jaw and face. At around 5 PM, he was taken to Arandhangi Government Hospital (GH) by 108 ambulance service.
In a blatant act of medical ignorance, a mortuary worker was assigned to treat the patient as per the allegations made by Karthiban's brother Sudarpaarvai Gandhi. He claimed that the on-duty doctor and nurse did not respond to the case and assigned the mortuary worker to treat the injuries of his brother. It was only after Gandhi's continuous cry that the doctor attended his brother at 9 PM.
Dr. Chandrasekhar, the Joint Director of Health Pudukottai said " I have ordered an inquiry. We have to find who was present and why the doctors or nurses failed to attend the patient. We will take action".
