DMK patriarch Dr M Karunanidhi passed away on Tuesday at 6.10 pm at the Kauvery Hospital. The five-time CM was admitted at the hospital on July 26 following fever due to urinary tract infection. Despite him responding well to the treatment at the beginning, his health condition declined following his demise.
DMK working president MK Stalin met with CM Edappadi K Palaniswami at his residence in Greenways Road. MK Alagiri and Kanimozhi, along with TR Balu, 'Murasoli' Selvam and Ex-Minister I Periyasamy have also attended the meeting.
It was reported that Stalin had requested for space near CN Annadura's memorial in Marina Beach. CM Palaniswami was reported as saying that he will consider Stalin's request and will allow it if the law permits. TN govt, however, later officially announced that space cannot be allocated in Marina and issued two acres of land in Gandhi Mandapam.
Following the government's release, Stalin requested CM Palaniswami again to reconsider. In the letter he issued to the CM, he wrote that after having served the people for 80 years, Kalaignar deserves respect and that on the basis of moral rights he should be allotted space for burial next to Anna's memorial in Marina.
