Tamil Nadu Cooperation Minister Sellur K Raju, who is in soup over his recent ‘Aachi’ comments, has given an explanation saying that he meant late actor Manorama, who is fondly called as ‘Aachi’. While commenting on actor Rajinikanth’s political career, the minister said, “Rajini can capture Karaikudi ‘Aachi’. Capturing ‘Aatchi (rule)’ in Tamil Nadu is in the hands of the people.”
Sellur Raju said his comments were misunderstood and he regretted if his comments hurt anyone’s sentiments. Members of the Karaikudi Nagarathar Sangam on Friday protested and sought an apology from the minister over his comment. The word ‘Aachi’ is used to refer to married women of the community in a respectful manner.
