Tamil Nadu assembly began with Governor Banwarilal Purohit's speech on Monday in which he announced that the upper limit for two-wheelers for women to be distributed by the state government, has been capped at Rs 25,000. Notably, scooters for women at subsidised rates were announced as part of the election propaganda by the then Tamil Nadu Chief Minister J Jayalalithaa in 2016. Earlier, TN CM Edappadi Palaniswami announced that the government will start distributing two-wheelers to women from February 24 onwards, which happens to be Jayalalithaa's birth anniversary.
