At least 2,500 trees have been cut by the CMRL along the elevated and underground lines of Chennai metro rail trail. Reportedly, 66,000 saplings were planted by the CMRL as a compensation for the trees that were cut down. But environmental experts told to Times of India that, cutting down of grown-up trees in such mass cannot be compensated even if so many saplings were planted.
