TN - MAJOR OIL SPILL AT ENNORE PORT; 2 TONNES OF OIL SPILT

According to reports, on Sunday, a major oil spill took place at the Kamarajar Port in Ennore where over two tonnes of oil was spilt.

Kamarajar Port is around 20 km from Chennai. On Sunday, a flexible hose responsible for oil transfer snapped, spilling two tonnes of oil. Previously, in 2017 the port suffered a similar major oil spill when two cargo ships ran into each other.

According to P Raveendran, the port's Chairman and Managing Director, skimmers were used to remove the oil from the water. He also added that around 80 per cent of the oil has been removed.
