Home > News Shots > Tamil NaduIn a shocking case, a temple elephant from Tamil Nadu's Thiruparankundram Subramaniya Swamy temple, trampled its mahout to death on Sunday (May 24).
The elephant has been identified as Deivanai, who was 14-years-old while the deceased has been identified as Kali Muthu. The elephant was brought to the temple from Assam when she was just seven-years-old.
As per a Times of India (ToI) report, the incident happened, when Kali Muthu took Deivanai for a bath on Sunday evening. Kali Muthu, seemed to have suffered severer injuries in the attack and was given first aid but died without responding to treatment at Govt Rajaji Hospital.
Soon after the incident, a case has been registered with the local police station. According to police sources, Deivanai, has been violent at least few times in the past leaving her mahouts injured.
This is not the first incident, where the elephant attacked the Mahout, in a similar incident that took place in March 2018, Deivanai attacked Mahouts Ganapathi Subramaniyam and Kanagasundaram, after which they both were treated in the hospital.
Few months back in 2018, Deivanai attacked another mahout, who escaped without any major injuries.
