Following the intensification of student protests against the hike in bus fares across the state, the police lathicharged students from Mannar Thirumalai Naicker College who tried to block a road in Madurai. Similar road blockades were staged in Vellore by Law College who squatted on the Mangalore-Vellore National Highway at Silk Milk bus stop and in Gudiyattam by students from Government Thirumagal Mills College.
