According to reports, a final year Madras Indian Institute of Technology student was found hanging to death in his room on Saturday.
Reportedly, Shahul Kornath, aged 23, was from Mallapuram, Kerala. Kornath was pursuing a B Tech-M Tech Naval architecture dual degree from IIT.
He had reportedly left behind no suicide note. However, it is suspected that Kornath took the extreme step due to the pressure of low attendance. IIT Madras mourned for his death and in a statement said, "This is indeed an irreparable loss to not just the institute and the family, but society as a whole. May his soul rest in peace."
