HC ASKS TO CONSIDER ONE DAY WEEKLY OFF FOR POLICE PERSONNEL

While hearing a petition seeking to abolish the orderly system in the police force, the Madras High Court Justice N Kirubakaran questioned why the police personnel should not be given a weekly off from duty. He also reiterated the court’s suggestion for the introduction of 8-hour, three-shift system for police personnel.
The judge made observations on the occupational hazards of the personnel and frequent attacks on them. A weekly holiday will allow them to spend some quality time with their family, he observed.
While the police personnel are forced to work round the clock, a weekly holiday will help them feel rejuvenated and relieve stress, the HC said.
