The Madras High Court on Monday asked the Tamil Nadu government as to why it hasn't mulled the idea of closing down bars attached to the Tamil Nadu State Marketing Corporation (TASMAC) shops, since they serve as meeting spots for criminals.
Earlier, judges had also asked the government as to why they can't delay opening of TASMACs at 2pm instead of the present time of 12 pm, saying that when shops open early, addicts' start to drink even before the day is to start. Judges further added that addiction to alcohol has begun at high school level.
