Five-time former Chief Minister Dr M Karunanidhi passed away at the Kauvery Hospital on Tuesday at 6.10 pm. Kalaignar was admitted to the hospital on July 26 following fever due to urinary tract infection. During his stay at the hospital, he was visited by many prominent regional and national leaders.
Kauvery Hospital released its final medical bulletin and stated, "With deep anguish, we announce the demise of our beloved Kalaignar Dr M Karunanidhi on 07.08.2018 at 06.10 PM. Despite our best possible efforts by our team of doctors and nurses to resuscitate him, he failed to respond."
In honour of the DMK patriarch's demise, government holiday was announced on Wednesday for Tamil Nadu along with a seven-day state mourning. Government holiday was announced in Puducherry as well, along with three days of mourning.
