IS TAMIL NADU STILL IN DOUBT OF RESUMING FLIGHT SERVICES? - WHATS THE REASON?
Home > News Shots > Tamil NaduWhile the Civil Aviation Ministry has announced that all the domestic flights in India are to resume from May 25, the Tamil Nadu state government is looking to stall the resumption of flight services until after May 31.
Apart from worrying about the virus spread the state government has also taken some other points into consideration. The state does not have abundant public transportation, which might be a huge problem for those travelling.
While speaking to NDTV, a senior officer has told, “We are yet to hear from the Civil Aviation Ministry.”
The state government is also speculating on opening up the other airports apart from the one in Chennai City. The officer admitted, "No, because a bulk of passengers would be Chennai-bound and we have yet to make transport arrangements to bring them to Chennai."
However, the Chennai airport along with the others are equipped with touch free facilities, and other requirements to facilitate air transportation. Despite Civil Aviation Minister Hardeep Puri’s announcement that quarantining after short flights are not necessary, the Tamil Nadu government requires people who are arriving at TN cities to quarantine.
Tamil Nadu now has cases close to 14,000, the second highest after Maharashtra in the Country.
