After meeting with district collectors, Tamil Nadu Chief Minister Edappadi K Palanisamy on Wednesday announced that all the district borders will be closed and inter-district travel will be suspended in the State till June 30.
Buses can only ply within respective district. Private vehicles crossing district borders will not be allowed without valid e-pass.
On June 15, the Chief Minister announced that four districts - Chennai, Chengalpet, Kancheepuram and Thiruvallur - will be brought under complete lockdown till June 30 in view of the rising number of COVID-19 cases.
Later on June 22, complete lockdown was announced in Madurai Corporation limit, Paravai town panchayat, all village panchayats of Madurai East, Madurai West and Thirupparankundram till June 30.
As on June 23, Tamil Nadu has reported 64,603 confirmed COVID-19 cases including 28,428 active cases and 35,339 recoveries. 833 people have succumbed to the virus so far in the State.
Chennai has the maximum number of confirmed cases (44,205) followed by Chengalpattu (4,030). With 2,826 confirmed cases, Thiruvallur stands third on the list.
