The Income Tax Department on Tuesday withdrew three tax case appeals against actor Rajinikanth, filed in 2014, which had sought a penalty of ₹66.21 lakh from the actor for allegedly concealing full particulars of income and providing inaccurate information, reports The Hindu. A bench comprising Justice Vineet Kothari and Justice R Suresh Kumar withdrew the same. The penalty was imposed on the income filed by Rajinikanth for three financial years from 2002-2005. Challenging the same, Rajinikanth approached The Income Tax Appellate Tribunal.
The repeal has come in view of a recent circular that says appeals can be withdrawn for cases below Rs 1 crore. Not just Rajinikanth, similar cases throughout the country and its courts will be withdrawn.
