CYCLONE ‘MAHA’ TO HIT TAMIL NADU; HOLIDAYS ANNOUNCED FOR SCHOOLS AND COLLEGES

While there is already a cyclone alert called ‘Kyarr’ in the Arabic sea, a new cyclone has been reported by the Indian Meteorological Department (IMD). The monsoon season in Tamil Nadu has begun that lead to heavy rain in districts such as Kanniyakumari, Tuticorin and Nellai. It was stated that the pull-effect from the low-pressure area converted into a depression that caused the heavy rainfall.

Meanwhile, another cyclone warning which is titled as 'Maha' has been issued by the IMD. It is said that the cyclone Maha has formed over the Arabic sea and Lakshadweep region. Reportedly, the cyclone will get intensified today and move towards Noth West, thus hovering over 300 Kms from Thiruvananthapuram.

Therefore heavy to very heavy rain could be expected in Tamil Nadu. The Tamil Nadu government has already declared holiday to schools in districts such as Tuticorin and Kanniyakumari.

Also, schools and colleges in Nilgris, Ooty, Kundha and Kothagiri have been declared holiday while some of the educational institutions in Kodaikanal's mountain regions have also been declared a holiday.

The district administration in Ramanathapuram announced holiday to all the schools in Ramanathapuram district only today. Also, the schools and colleges in Pondicherry and Karaikal have been declared holiday today.
