CYCLONE GAJA HAMMERS COASTAL TAMIL NADU; SCHOOLS & COLLEGES SHUT IN THESE AREAS

The severe cyclonic storm 'Gaja' that crossed the coast of Tamil Nadu and Puducherry between Nagapattinam and Vedaranniyam in the early hours today, has wreaked havoc. With wind speeds of up to 120 kmph, the storm brought heavy rain across the coastal districts.
The cyclone has caused considerable damage to public property, particularly Vedharanayam in Nagapattinam district. Power supply has been suspended in Nagapattinam, Cuddalore, Pudukkottai, Karaikal, Tiruvarur, Thanjavur, and Trichy districts.

In light of the impact, a holiday has been declared for educational institutions in Nagapattinam, Cuddalore, Ramanathapuram, Tiruvarur, Pudukottai, Thanjavur, Sivagangai, Ariyalur, Thiruvannamalai, Tirupur, Coimbator, Karur districts by district collectors.
