Six members of the Hindu Makkal Katchi tried to force a bunch of men to marry their lovers by handing over a ‘thali’. Ten men were waiting for their lovers to celebrate Valentine’s Day outside the Science Centre in Tirunelveli, when the members walked over and handed them ‘thalis’ and garlands and urged them to marry their lovers. Udayar S, the district president said, “In the pretext of love, they are destroying our rich culture in public places. So we have come to conduct weddings of those who are truly in love." The Palayamkottai police had to step in and arrest three of the members.
