According to reports, the Madras High Court has ordered liquor shops to not be opened on national highways unless they are converted to local roads. It has also announced that all liquor shops opened on national highways that have not been converted to local roads to close down.
The HC had previously ordered all liquor shops on national highways to be closed in 2017. However, many shops on highways that ran through the cities asked the HC to reconsider. The HC's recent order came as a solution to their plea.
