In a tragic case, four persons were killed in a road accident on the Thoothukudi- Madurai highway. In the accident, two teens and a 23-year-old college student died in the mishap.
The deceased have been identified as, A. Ramya, 17, Virendran, 15, V. Barghavi, 23, a college student from Nanganallur in Chennai and driver Joevin Remigious, 29.
According to The Hindu reports, Ramya and her brother Virendran along with their friend Barghavi were going to Tiruchendur to offer prayers at Lord Subramaniya Swamy Temple. Meanwhile, Ramya’s grandparents were also following them in another car.
The fateful incident took place at the rail over-bridge at the SIPCOT Industrial Complex on the outskirts of Thoothukudi. The speeding car collided head-on with an oncoming lorry.
Sadly, Ramya, Virendran, Barghavi and driver Joevin Remigious died on the spot. Shocked and sad grandparents alerted the police, who rushed to the spot to retrieve the bodies.
Police said that a crane was used to lift the lorry while a recovery van pulled the mangled remains of the car. After investigation, the police said that over-speeding of the car may have caused the accident, reports The Hindu.
Currently, the bodies have been sent to Thoothukudi Medical College Hospital for post-mortem. Police said over-speeding of the car may have caused the accident.
