Home > News Shots > Tamil NaduThe Health and Family Welfare Department of Tamil Nadu said on Wednesday that 768 positive cases of COVID-19 have been recorded in Chennai. On Wednesday alone 104 cases were reported in Tamil Nadu out of which 94 were from Chennai.
The list of patients included four children below the age of ten who tested positive for COVID-19. In the past two days put together the city has recorded 179 positive cases.
“According to the data released by the Chennai Corporation on April 28, Royapuram, Thiru-Vi-Ka- Nagar, Teynampet and Tondairpet contribute to 66% of the positive cases registered in the city”, The New Indian Express cited in its report.
The Chennai Corporation has identified 15 zones in the city which are- Thiruvottiyur, Manali, Madhavaram, Tondairpet, Royapuram, Thiru-Vi-Ka-Nagar, Ambattur, Anna Nagar, Teynampet, Kodambakkam, Valasaravakkam, Alandur, Adyar, Perungudi and Sholinganallur.
The government has been taking efforts to curb the spread of the virus. Chennai corporation listed 84 streets under containment in the city, two weeks ago. Due to the increase in number of reported cases, the corporation has now included 202 streets under containment.
Earlier in the week, Tamil Nadu government imposed an intense four- day lockdown in five districts including Chennai.
Chief Minister Edappadi K Palaniswamy told on Wednesday that special committees have been formed in areas like Royapuram, Thiru-Vi-Ka-Nagar, Tondairpet, Anna Nagar, Kodambakkam and Triplicane to monitor and control the spread of the virus.
