Food safety officials received a complaint that plastic rice is being sold at Tirupur ration store. Allegedly, one Jaya Mary of Susaiya Puram, Tirupur was sold 25 kilos of plastic rice instead of Rajabogam Ponni rice. According to her, while cooking, the rice did not submerge in water, it bounced back without breaking after made into a ball and thrown at the wall, and it started burning when exposed to fire. After her complaint, Tirupur food safety department officials conducted an investigation at the shop and took with them rice samples.
