Chief Minister Edappadi K Palaniswami on Thursday strongly stated in the assembly that the government’s order on permanent closure of the Vedanta’s Sterlite plant in Thoothukudi was legally valid in all means. He said that the order was issued after detailed discussions with legal experts.
The Chief Minister stated that the AIADMK government has been making consistent efforts to close the plant. However, using ‘legal loopholes’, the plant could never be closed. “Now, with the strong steps taken by this government, the plant has been closed permanently”, he said.
