A 23-year-old lorry driver Ramesh was charred to death after the lorry that he was driving caught fire after colliding with a trailer lorry near Mangadu during the early hours of Sunday. According to reports, the driver was a resident of Muthumariamman Koil Street, Kovur.
The driver, along with the cleaner Marimuthu reportedly collected construction material from Kanchipuram to deliver them in Red Hills. When he was driving in the flyover in North Malayambakkam near Mangadu past midnight, the truck rammed a trailer lorry, carrying a crane, from the rear.
In the impact, Ramesh’s lorry overturned. The lorry’s fuel tank caught fire. The door was also jammed due to the impact. However, the cleaner managed to escape and tried to pull out Ramesh but in vain.
