Residences in Chennai may have to pay water duties four times higher than the present charge. The Metrowater corporation will soon install digital meters, which will record the quantity of water consumed by each household. Currently, an amount of Rs 50 is collected from residences and Rs 400 from commercial establishments irrespective of how much water they consume.
