Impressed by a short documentary film "Period. End of Sentence," which bagged an Academy award for the best documentary, CSK's star cricketer and West Indies player Dwayne Bravo researched on the Padma Shri awardee Arunachalam Muruganandham and his work on low-cost sanitary napkins.
He paid a surprise visit to Jayaashree Industries, a low cost sanitary pad-making unit located in KNG Pudur on Wednesday. He visited to learn about the concept of making low-cost sanitary napkins and is determined to implement it in his native place and across the Caribbean countries.
Speaking to Deccan Chronicle, Muruganandham said, “I was surprised when I came face-to-face with the cricketing legend. He showed keen interest in the concept of low-cost sanitary pad making, and I told him that he can become its ambassador in his native region and home country. I told him you are ‘Bravo and are brave’.”
Bravo was disappointed at the alarming rate of young girls who attain puberty in his region and drop out of school due to no facilities for menstrual hygiene. He thus visited Jayaashree Industries to learn the nuances of the technology and very soon, would implement it in the Caribbean countries.
