A woman, who identified herself as Narmada Nandakumar, was detained by police on Friday after she attempted to unleash crabs inside the house of Tamil Nadu fisheries minister D Jayakumar. The woman was involved in the act as a protest demanding safe living conditions for fishermen.
The woman was carrying crabs in a bag. Stating that a large number of fishermen were affected in the Cyclone Ockhi in December last year, the women demanded that adequate precautionary measures should be taken to ensure the safety of them for the upcoming December.
Last December, hundreds of fishermen from southern districts including Thoothukudi, Tirunelveli and Kanyakumari went missing as they were on the sea when Cyclone Ockhi struck.
