A study by an Indo-German Centre for Sustainability, IIT Madras and Tamil Nadu State Land Use Research Board has found that in 30 years, Chennai would witness a rise in sea levels from 4.35 metres to 6.85 metres affecting the land masses. The reports have also alerted the government to prepare district disaster plans for Chennai, Kanchipuram and Thiruvallur as these would be majorly affected. The rise in sea level is vulnerable to surge storm which will be as bad as Hurricane Irma, the study reportedly said.
