Chennai sweet shop owner fined for adulterated sweets

The Ajnabi Mithaai Ghar in Elephant gate, Sowcarpet owner, was slapped a penalty of Rs. 55,000 by District Consumer Disputes Redressal Forum. Reportedly a man bought half a kilogram of sweet from the shop and immediately fell sick after consuming the sweet. The man lodged a complaint and sent the sample of sweet to King Institute of Preventive Medicine and Research. The institute reportedly stated that food is unsafe for consuming and it may cause various health problems. The man also sought a compensation of Rs. 5 lakhs from the shop owner as he was given bad service and causing mental agony.
