On Saturday, three thieves who robbed a house in Mylapore and attempted to escape were caught by the Shastri Nagar police who used a face recognition app. The app scans photos of suspects and brings up possible matches in the database along with the criminal history, if any. One of the policemen was quoted as saying, "The Android app has icons to access the gallery on the phone or to take a photo. Once a photo is clicked, it will be processed at the back end. The result appears with a possible matching photo along with the percentage of the match.” The thieves have been involved in several other phone snatching and robbery cases as well.
