A car caught fire and was completely charred on the road in St Thomas Mount near Guindy before the firefighters arrived to douse the fire, say reports. Purported videos show the car engulfed in fire. Chitra from Alapakkam, who is a dental professor in Kanchipuram, was on the way to work in the car.
The driver named Kiruba alerted Chitra when he saw smoke emerging from the car’s engine. Immediately, they stopped the car and ran away to distance. The fire quickly spread all over and charred the car in the middle of the road. The two escaped without any injuries and the St. Thomas Mount police were informed.
Reports suggest that the could have been caused by a short circuit in the car’s battery. However, there was no disruption in vehicle traffic on the road due to the incident.
