Many auto drivers in the city decided to opt for LPG as fuel as it is substantially cheaper (petrol costs Rs 71.60 a litre, while LPG costs Rs 43). But the low number of LPG fuelling points in the city have caused many to regret their decision and has made several others wary and reluctant to switch to LPG, the more eco-friendly and economical option. Ramu, an auto driver was quoted as saying, “When the fuel tank goes dry at Parrys corner, either we have to travel to Royapettah or Walltax road, located four kilometres away to fill the LPG. It affects our daily income.”
