Former RSS activist who is now the founder and leader of Hindu Makkal Katchi, Arjun Sampath was arrested by Tamil Nadu police near Kumbakonam today (November 6).
The action was taken after Arjun Sampath draped the great Tamil Scholar and Poet Tiruvalluvar with Saffron clothes and rudraksha mala followed by splashing mud (Thiruneer) over Valluvar's face and cheeks. Further, he conducted a pooja according to Hindu customs to the Tamil scholar. The incident was orchestrated to the Tiruvalluvar statue in Pillayarpatti near Thanjavur. Reportedly, the police officers who gave protection to Arjun Sampath for performing such activities were suspended.
Earlier, the same Tiruvalluvar statue was dishonoured by throwing cow's dung and further depicting it with violent nature.
While the incident has created furore among Tamil people including activists and politicians, a special team was formed to identify the perpetrators. Of late, religion (including Hinduism) and Spirituality have been clubbed together to preach an ideology.
Experts and wise men say, "It is high time for people to understand that Religion and Spirituality are totally two different things. Therefore Tiruvalluvar, whose contribution to the world of Tamil including Spirituality has immense connection, should NOT be linked with religions".
