Home > News Shots > Tamil NaduA labourer from East Godavari, Andhra Pradesh was in for a surprise on Saturday when two policemen traced her address and informed that she had to attend a video conference, with the Director-General of Police (DGP).
The labourer, Lokamani was thanked personally by Gautam Sawang (DGP) through the video call as a video of her offering cold drink bottles to the police officers deputed to duty in her area, went viral on social media platforms. The visuals show Lokamani pulling out two large bottles of cold drinks from her bag and offering them to the police. She identified herself as a daily wage labourer, who was earning a meagre salary of Rs. 3,500 per month.

After this heart-warming gesture, the police returned her bottles and offered two bottles from their bags for her children back home.
Overwhelmed DGP on the video call said, “We were touched by the way you offered cold drinks to the police, showing motherly love. The same day, I told my officer to trace you, so we can thank you. I was particular that I thanked you personally.” He added, “It is for people like you that the government and the police work day and night. It is to ensure the health and safety of people like you that the police are on the streets working very hard. For the way you offered cold drinks to the policemen, we salute you. We all salute you.” The other officials near the DGP applauded her for her efforts.
Lokamani smiling from ear to ear, brought her hands together to thank them.
The rural circle’s inspector visited her and presented her with a sari and blouse as a token of gratitude. They also gave her supplies including rice, tamarind, oil, and pulses that will last for a month.
