Protests against the Sterlite copper plant in Thoothukudi turned violent after police opened gunfire against the protestors on Tuesday, the 100th day of the protest. While different politicians reacted to the situation, Prime Minister Narendra Modi's silence ticked off the citizens of Tamil Nadu.
Speaking to the press, President of the Bharatiya Janata Party, Amit Shah reportedly said, "It was wrong of the police to open gunfire against the protestors." He also clarified, "Prime Minister Narendra Modi too was deeply pained by the Thoothukudi shooting."
