4 NEW CORONAVIRUS HOTSPOTS IN CHENNAI IDENTIFIED : OFFICIALS “VERY CONCERNED” – DETAILS
Home > News Shots > Tamil NaduChennai city has been recording close to one thousand cases every day. While certain areas which were previously considered as hotspots are reporting minimum cases, certain other new hotspots have emerged.
The officials are highly concerned about the surge in coronavirus cases in zones like Ambattur. On July 31, Ambattur had 1,200 active cases, but it rose to 1,618 on August 10, which is the highest among all the other zones in Chennai district. Only four zones have over 1,000 cases, they include, Ambattur, Anna Nagar, Kodambakkam and Adyar.
These four zones account for the highest percentage of cases. Ambattur records 20% of total cases in Chennai followed by Adyar 13%, Kodambakkam 10%, and Anna Nagar 9%.
“A week ago, there were 67 streets with active cases in Ambattur zone. Now, there are 125. More cases have emerged from Padi area, and containment measures are being undertaken,’’ an official with the zone said. “The increase in numbers from the past few days must not worry people because a street is marked active for a period of 14 days, even if there’s just one case. So, the numbers may fluctuate,’’ a civic body’s health department official said.
