According to reports, around 4,000 fishermen and women from nine villages in Kanyakumari district protested on Sunday by entering the sea and holding black flags in their hands. Villages including Muttom, Rajakamangalam Thurai, Pozhikarai, Annai Nagar, Pallam, Kesavanputhenthurai, Periyakadu and Alikkal Pillai Thoppu participated in the protest. The protesters demanded to rescue fishermen who went missing during Cyclone Ockhi. They also reportedly asked the State and Central governments to take necessary steps for safe fishing.
