According to reports, Tamil Nadu is currently suffering worst drought in the last 140 years. This phenomenon has reportedly created a widespread debate and discussion about the river interlinking project among the Tamil Nadu's political parties. Notably, DMK working president MK Stalin wrote a letter to PM Modi seeking linking of rivers in Tamil Nadu saying that it would benefit farmers across the country.
