Sreesanth has announced his retirement from all forms of cricket from the Indian cricket team.
Sreesanth was banned from playing cricket by the BCCI for life for allegedly engaging in spot-fixing during the 2013 IPL.
However, now the Delhi court has ruled out that the cricketer was not involved in spot-fixing.
IPL did not bid
Following this, he played for Kerala in domestic series, including the Ranji Trophy and Vijay Hazare, to ease the punishment imposed on him by the BCCI. Sreesanth had registered his name in the recently concluded IPL auction. However, no team bid for him.
Retirement
Sreesanth, who last played for India in 2011, has been making strenuous efforts to stay in the IPL but, unfortunately it went unnoticed. He has played only one match for Kerala in the ongoing Ranji Trophy series and has announced his retirement.
With a heavy heart ..
"It has been an honor to represent my family, my teammates and the people of India. Nd everyone who loves the game. With much sadness but without regret, I say this with a heavy heart: I am retiring from the Indian domestic (first class and all formats) cricket," tweeted Sreesanth.
Fans melt
Sreesanth's retirement decision came as a shock to his fans. Similarly, cricket celebrities, including Harbhajan Singh, had commented about the same on his social networking site. The Indian team has won the T20 and Fifties World Cups in 2007 and 2011 respectively. In both the series, Sreesanth was featured in the Indian team.
Last match in Ranji series
In the first match of the Ranji Trophy against Meghalaya, Sreesanth was included in the team. In subsequent matches, Sreesanth was not given a chance.
Farewell Match
Speaking on the occasion, Sreesanth said, "I was looking forward to playing the match against Gujarat in the Ranji Trophy. In the team meeting ahead of the game, I had made it clear that it would be my last match for Kerala. I believe I deserve a farewell match."
Although Sreesanth informed the team before the match, the Kerala cricket administration did not give him a chance to play against Gujarat. It is to be noted that Sreesanth has announced his retirement from the Farewell match.
