The 56th league match of the IPL series was played at the Mumbai Stadium yesterday. The Mumbai Indians, led by Rohit Sharma, and the Kolkata Knight Riders, led by Shreyas Iyer, clashed. Batting first, Kolkata lost 9 wickets in 20 overs and scored 165 runs. Venkatesh Iyer and Nitish Rana top-scored with 43 each.
Batting next, Mumbai lost all their wickets in 17.3 overs and scored only 113 runs. Kolkata won by 52 runs.
Speaking after the match, Kolkata captain Shreyas Iyer blamed the team's management. He said, "Coach and at times, CEO is also obviously involved in team selections. Each and every player takes it well, and they have put in their best efforts."
He continued, "It’s hard to get into a situation where you tell a player in every match that you’re going to get fired. Many times the coach and CEO interfere in team selection. But all the players take it for granted and try to show their best." Captain Iyer has openly accused coach McCullum and team chief Venky Mysore of interfering in the selection of the team.
