Interesting information has come out about the Australian player who is going to play in the IPL series again after 11 years. The 15th season of the IPL is set to begin on March 26 at the Wankhede Stadium in Mumbai. In the first match, defending champions Chennai Super Kings will take on Kolkata Knight Riders.
The IPL series was held in the United Arab Emirates last year due to COVID situations. The IPL matches are scheduled to be held in India this year as the COVID situation is currently declining. The IPL will be played at three venues, Mumbai, Pune and Ahmedabad.
From this year 2 new teams have joined as Lucknow and Gujarat. So all the players on the team were disbanded and a mega IPL auction was held recently. Many of these foreign players were auctioned off at higher prices. In that category, Australian player Matthew Wade has been auctioned off by the Gujarat team. He was bought for Rs 2.40 crore.
Matthew Wade last played in 3 matches for the Delhi Daredevils in 2011. But as he scored only 22 runs in total, he was not given a chance in the next few matches. He was not picked by any team in the subsequent IPL auctions.
It was in this context that Matthew Wade was featured in the recently concluded T20 World Cup Series. Matthew Wade was then the main reason for Australia's victory in the semi-final against Pakistan. In particular, Pakistan's fast bowler Shahid Afridi hit three sixes in a row in the 19th over to grab everyone's attention. Due to this the Gujarat team has taken him up for auction. So after 11 years, Matthew Wade is back in the IPL.
