Team India is all set to take on West Indies in the 3-match T20 series which begins tomorrow (December 6). Meanwhile, reports say that the West Indies series will be monitored closely by the BCCI to select players for the upcoming T20 World Cup in Australia next year. It is said that the key focus will be on the following three players.
KL Rahul
The right-handed batsman will open the innings since Dhawan was ruled out of the series due to an injury. It is more likely that Rahul has a brighter prospect with his proven career in T20Is. He holds an average of 42.74 with a score of 974 runs in 31 T20Is. His highest T20 score is 110 runs.
Rishabh Pant
According to his recent performances, Pant's career graph has taken a toll. He was considered as the predecessor of MS Dhoni who is out of cricket for quite some time now. His inconsistent batting performances and not-so-good job behind the stumps put him under the scanner of the selectors.
Sanju Samson
The wicketkeeper-batsman scored 112 runs in the recently concluded Syed Mushtaq Ali trophy from 4 matches. Though he was not included in the squad initially, Dhawan's knee injury turned lights on him. Sanju's inclusion has raised a dilemma over choosing the wicket-keeper choice in tomorrow's tournament.
Probability
Despite consistent poor performances and criticisms, Rishabh Pant was still preferred by the selectors in the West Indies series. Therefore reports say that Pant would be given one last chance before the T20 World Cup to prove his mettle, mainly because of the inclusion of in-form Sanju Samson in the squad.
India’s squad for 3 T20Is: Virat Kohli (C), Rohit Sharma (VC), KL Rahul, Shreyas Iyer, Manish Pandey, Rishabh Pant (WK), Shivam Dube, Washington Sundar, Ravindra Jadeja, Yuzvendra Chahal, Kuldeep Yadav, Deepak Chahar, Mohammed Shami, Bhuvneshwar Kumar, Sanju Samson (WK)
