India will be leaving for West Indies on July 29 (Monday) to face the Carribean team in all the three cricketing formats. As we reported yesterday, Virat Kohli will not be facing the press before the departure but, the Indian skipper and team would have to face the mighty storm on the field while they are playing ODIs against the Windies.
On July 27 (Friday), the West Indies Cricket Board (WICB) announced the inclusion of Chris Gayle in the 14-member squad of the 3 ODI series beginning from August 8. After the World Cup loss, the WICB has been taking immediate measures to improve the playing XI of West Indies team. Earlier, Sunil Narine and Kieron Pollard were brought back into the team for the first two T20 games.
The WICB is keen on building a sustainable WI team for the future and the inclusion of Chris Gayle who is also referred by the nickname “Master Storm” is a step to pass on considerable knowledge and experience to the WI team. "Chris is a very valuable player and he brings a lot of experience, a lot of knowledge, he lends a lot to any dressing room and it is great to have him in the squad,” West Indies interim coach Floyd Reifer was quoted as saying by CricketNext.
Apart from Chris Gayle, West Indies also recalled Keemo Paul, Roston Chase and John Campbell who played in the World Cup Squad. As per sources, Floyd Reifer has plans to shape up a strong West Indies team for World Cup 2023 and he would be starting the process right away with the upcoming series against India.
